The Challenge

Following his short-lived early retirement from the industry, legendary game designer Cliff Bleszinski returned to the scene hell-bent on building games true to his fans. He launched a new studio in the heart of Raleigh, NC called Boss Key Productions – a nimble team of industry veterans that could actually deliver on a “no bullshit” philosophy and set a new industry standard for gamers to get behind. As a team that could rival the passion and agility of Boss Key Productions, Cliff looked to Digital Surgeons to help launch the brand with a seamless digital experience that could keep the dialogue open and show the world what they were all about.


Our Approach

Simply put, we only work with brands we love, and nothing felt more like a perfect match than our two teams of forward-thinking diehard gamers. We kicked the “9-5” mentality to the curb and iterated on a design direction until it was pixel perfect. With a look and feel established, we launched a cross-functional assault to build out the digital experience with BKP’s community-based objectives in mind.

We set the visual direction for the brand by building out an elaborate moodboard. Not only would this serve as the foundation for the digital experience, but it would also help paint a vivid picture of what Boss Key Productions actually was from the inside out – a passionate group of people that love what they do; make awesome games.

Caffeine-infused adrenaline took over and one meticiously crafted moodboard transformed into fully responsive, CMS-powered website practically overnight. Using highly-engaging photography of the new studio and a UX inspired by some of our favorite games, we built a digital experience the could serve as the central hub of all things Boss Key; from breaking game news to the weekly live streaming.

Build out a community starts with the conversation. To help Boss Key Productions stay true to their mission of putting gamers first, they needed an experience for the new site that could actually deliver on it. Enter “The Boss_Feed.” We developed a content aggregator that pulled dynamic content from the blog and their social networks in real time to keep users entrenched in the conversation surrounding the studio, community, and their upcoming game.

The Results

Within minutes of launching the new Boss Key site, our social channels exploded. The site received an extremely positive response from the broader gaming community, garnering over 300k impressions from Twitter alone in first 24 hours.
