This Week’s Top Stories
SXSW (South by Southwest), an annual event in Austin, TX for film, music and interactive media, kicked off today. SXSWi (the interactive portion) consists of meet-and-greets and panels, and is always the starting point of the next big thing as far as startups. The festivities are just getting started, but we can’t wait to see what this year has in store for us and to hear stories from the DS team down in Texas!
Popular new startup Pinterest has exceeded Twitter as a means of referring traffic.
Apple held their long-awaited event this week and introduced the new iPad (with retina display), Apple TV for 1080p and updates to the iWork and iLife suites, including iPhoto for iOS.
Facebook has added Interest tabs to the sidebar of a user’s newsfeed that generate articles and posts relating to that particular topic.
Google rebranded their Android Market as Google Play and is offering cloud-based capabilities for music, movies and ebooks for Android users. Google Play is also available for for iOS.
AdAge reported this week that a survey by Advertisers Perceptions revealed that a majority (59 percent) of respondents would invest more money in social media marketing and ads.
Be On the Lookout:
Twitter has us all abuzz with possibilities as they announce changes to brand pages. The new pages will allow for e-commerce and functionality for enhanced contests. AdAge also reported that the changes can be expected before the end of the year.
