6 of the Best Digital Marketing and Analytics Podcasts

While it’s been years since podcasting could be considered a niche medium, it continues to surge in popularity. According to Edison Research, podcast listening grew 23% between 2015 and 2016. Fueled by the ubiquity of smartphones and the always-rising need for on-demand content, podcasting will only continue to grow as a platform that empowers content creators to directly reach and engage an audience. Business context aside, as avid listeners we wanted to share some of our favorite digital marketing and analytics podcasts:

1) The Digital Analytics Power Hour

Inspired by “a few pints and a few hours of discussion” after an eMetrics conference, Michael Helbling and Tim Wilson created the Digital Analytics Power Hour. The podcast is an open forum discussion about the people, processes, and best practices of cutting-edge digital analytics. Digital Surgeons’ own Tom Miller, the leader of our analytics practice, appeared on the 32nd episode and discussed the future of digital analytics, the impact of TV, and whether or not the podcast hosts could beat up robocop in a bar fight.    

2) Digital Entrepreneur

The Digital Entrepreneur podcast, created by Brian Clark and Jerod Morris, is best described as a digital marketing strategy guide focused on helping those who wish to discover more efficient ways digital channels can both create and sell goods and services. The podcast provides a steady supply of tactful advice, insight, and strategy to help give any online business the boost it needs.

3) Measured Direction

We just couldn’t help but include ourselves. Measured Direction is Digital Surgeons’ own audience-driven digital analytics and marketing strategy podcast hosted by our Analytics Practice Lead Tom Miller and Content Strategist Jason Rose. Each episode, Tom and Jason answer and discuss audience-submitted questions to provide actionable advice for practitioners spending their days in the digital marketing trenches.       

4) Mine That Data

The Mine That Data podcast is hosted by the CEO of their consultancy, Kevin Hillstrom. Hillstrom leverages his extensive experience working for and with retail brands of all shapes and sizes. So far he’s candidly tackled what makes something “actionable”, A/B testing, five tool analysts, the People vs. OJ Simpson, among countless other topics.   

5) Data Stories

Data Stories is an awesome data visualization podcast hosted by Enrico Bertini and Moritz Stefaner. Bertini is an acclaimed researcher and NYU professor, and Stefaner is a renowned data visualization specialist that works with a variety of commercial and academic clients. The combination of their diverse backgrounds and thinking leads to insightful discussions around the latest in data analytics and visualization.

6) What’s the Point?

FiveThirtyEight’s podcast What’s the Point?, hosted by Jody Avirgan, maintains the editorial standard set by founder Nate Silver and explores the growing influence data has on our everyday lives. Primarily an interview show, Avirgan uses the tagline, “Big Data. Small Interviews” to describe the succinct style of his weekly conversations.
