OpenID is a free and very easy way to use one digital identity for access everywhere on the internet. The OpenID project began in January 2007 by JanRain, and in the last year and a half nearly 10,000 websites have signed on to accept this ‘Universal Remote’ of online access. This universal access supports the Open Source Initiative and steps have been taken to keep it completely free. Sites like AOL, Yahoo, Vox, and Technorati have become OpenID providers and popularity with online users is growing fast as word spreads.
